Today we are going to read a short article called Picnicking at home.

One morning a group of friends decided to go on picnic. Helen and Jane made the hamburgers. They weren’t sure what everyone would like, so they made several different types of hamburgers. Jane made her special recipe for tuna fish salad. She mixed a can of fish with carrots, mayonnaise and pickles. Helen made peanut butter and jelly hamburgers because they were her favorite. They also made ham and cheese, and egg salad.
Todd and Richard were in charge of bringing the drinks. They had soda, juice, tea, and a large bottle of water. Richard and Todd put all of the drinks into their backpacks. When they walked out the door, it started raining very hard. At first, Todd was going to call Helen and Jane and cancel the picnic, but then Richard has an idea.
“Why don’t we have a picnic right here?” he said.
“We don’t have to go outside.”
“That sounds like a good idea,” said Todd.
“Besides, now we don’t have to worry about ants. I’ll go call Helen and Jane and tell them to come over.”
