I suppose we may remember it this way

。present/past perfective tenses indicate specific actions that may not be repeated unless completed

e.g. I have eaten (that specific) an apple (and cannot possibly eat again that apple)

。past tense are actions that have been completed, and may habitually be repeated again

e.g. I ate (any) an apple (and may or may not choose to eat another apple anytime)

Hi Maggie, I have a silly question re. present perfect and simple present tense, which often comes to my mind when I read / write emails at work. So say one is to send his/her Client an email saying that a technical report has been / is updated to address the comments previously provided by the Client.

The report has been updated in response to your comments.

VERSUS

The report is updated in response to your comments.

I am guessing in this context the former will make more sense as "the update was done at some point in the past but the results still affect us now"?

I have always used the Present Perfect one in these circumstances, but the more I learn and read the more I question myself… bahaha
